UEI worked collaboratively with Gensler to help create an elevator interior design that complemented the lobby renovations.
Wood veneer is the signature material used on the back wall and ceiling. As in many projects like this, where the elevator interior is done in concert with a lobby renovation, material sourcing is critical since both the lobby and elevator veneers need to be sourced from the same logs to provide perfect continuity.
Notably, the use of wood veneer in the ceiling stands out. Wood veneer is not a common material for ceilings, yet it is always an available option.
We used large-format sintered porcelain tile for the flooring. It is our go-to “stone” material for elevator floors, as it has a fiberglass mesh backing giving it greater tensile strength.
The side walls are finished with #4 stainless steel, providing a neutral element that helps keep the focal point of interest on the back wall and ceiling.
LED perimeter lighting also helps to highlight the wood veneer.
