Waterfront Plaza
As with many UEI projects, the customer wanted to pull the upgraded lobby design elements into the passenger elevators. The common themes were blackened hot-rolled steel and white oak planking.
The white oak (planking style) wall finish in the lobby didn’t have the appropriate fire rating for an elevator interior, so it couldn't be used. As a solution, we created a faux plank look using white oak veneer adhered to a fire-rated substrate and applied the veneer in a random pattern similar to what you might see with solid wood flooring. The lobby paneling had a slight v-groove between each plank. We emulated that look by creating a v-groove between each piece of veneer using our CNC machine.
